Animation Magazine: film is China's highest-grossing animated title of 2026, No. 3 film overall

Animation Magazine reported on August 19 that after one month of release, All Wishes Come True! is firmly China's highest-grossing animation release of 2026 so far with US$235.9 million (about CN¥1.6 billion), a figure that also makes the Eight Immortals tale the country's No. 3 overall film for 2026 to date — far outpacing Hollywood animation titles in the market.

More than tripling Hollywood animation in China

Animation Magazine reported on August 19 that the Pearl Studio and CMC Pictures production has more than tripled the China box office of Disney's "Zootopia 2" and Pixar's "Toy Story 5", both billion-dollar worldwide grossers; per Box Office Mojo's 2026 China animation chart, "All Wishes Come True!" leads with US$235.9 million, ahead of "Zootopia 2" (US$57.5 million), "Minions & Monsters" (US$42.4 million) and "Toy Story 5" (US$42.2 million).[1]

The report noted the film's most recent weekend added US$13.1 million, and that it opened in the U.S. and Canada on August 14 as part of an international rollout continuing through September; while far from 2025's record-setter "Ne Zha 2" (US$2.2 billion), the performance shows China's broader animation industry is increasingly competitive with Western studios.[1]

New competition from "Mystery of Chang'an" on August 22

Animation Magazine added that the film may face stiffer competition this weekend when "Mystery of Chang'an" (formerly titled "Demon Agent"), directed by "Jian Ziya" co-director Cheng Teng, opens on August 22 after a two-week delay, while Enlight Pictures' fantasy adaptation "To Your Island" has grossed US$15 million since its August 7 opening.[1]
