Summer tops CN¥7.5B; global rollout from Aug 13

CGTN reported, citing data from an online box office tracker, that China's 2026 summer box-office earnings, including pre-sales, surpassed 7.5 billion yuan (about US$1.1 billion) as of Tuesday, August 4; domestic films have taken the lead this year, sweeping the top seven spots on the annual chart and the top two places in the summer window.[1]

Leading the summer pack is the sports comedy Kung Fu Soccer, written and directed by Stephen Chow and described as a spiritual successor to his 2001 classic Shaolin Soccer; close behind is the animated feature All Wishes Come True!, a comedy animation inspired by a beloved Chinese folk legend.[1]

The report noted that the film's producers have confirmed a global rollout starting August 13, matching the previously announced overseas schedule — Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea on August 13, followed by the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Netherlands on August 14.[1][2]
