China's 2026 summer box office passes CN¥11B; film stays in season's top three

Bastille Post reported on August 21 that China's summer box office, including presales, had surpassed CN¥11 billion (reported as about US$1.64 billion) as of Friday evening, two days after passing CN¥10.7 billion; according to online platform data cited in the report, daily box office had exceeded CN¥100 million for 42 consecutive days, and the season had drawn over 300 million moviegoers across more than 35 million screenings.[1]

CGTN reported on August 22 that the summer-holiday season's gross had exceeded CN¥11.2 billion (reported as US$1.67 billion) as of Saturday, according to box office tracker Beacon, with both audience numbers and screenings reaching record highs.[2]

Bastille Post placed Kung Fu Soccer, All Wishes Come True! and Spider-Man: Brand New Day as the current top three box office hits of the season, consistent with its earlier reports that put the Pearl Studio film second for the summer with CN¥1.6 billion.[1]

In its August 22 report on the industry beyond ticket sales, CGTN named All Wishes Come True! among the domestic productions sharing the spotlight with major international releases this summer, and noted that the film debuted in cinemas in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and other markets from August 13; an English title was chosen for it instead of a literal translation of its Chinese name, The Eight Immortals!, "reflecting an effort to make the film more accessible to English-speaking audiences."[2]
