China's 2026 box office passes CN¥27B (US$4B); film's total reaches CN¥1.7B

CGTN reported on August 23 that China's 2026 box office had surpassed CN¥27 billion (around US$4 billion) on August 22, with the summer season contributing CN¥11.2 billion including presales; the season had kept daily box office above CN¥100 million for 43 consecutive days, with both attendances and the number of screenings setting new records.[1]

Bastille Post reported the same day that the 2026 box office had crossed the CN¥27 billion mark (reported as over US$4 billion) as of Saturday night, driven largely by a summer lineup that had broken multiple records; over 100 Chinese and foreign films are scheduled during the three-month season, which began on June 1.[2]

Bastille Post placed sports comedy Kung Fu Soccer and animated fantasy All Wishes Come True! at the top of the season's chart, with CN¥2.3 billion (reported as US$342 million) and CN¥1.7 billion (reported as US$253 million) respectively.[2]

The Bastille Post report also noted that All Wishes Come True!, which draws on traditional Chinese legends, has been released across North America, Southeast Asia, Australia and Europe and has topped the charts among Chinese-language films in multiple countries; Chinese films' overseas box office revenue has surpassed CN¥450 million (reported as US$67 million) so far this year.[2]
