Original Cin review: "an animated work of art" blending Ocean's Eleven suspense and Indiana Jones adventure

In a review published on August 18, Original Cin's Alice Shih wrote that while "the Japanese style of animated beauty has been imitated worldwide, it seems the Chinese have finally found their own aesthetics," praising the 3-D animation for meticulously portraying the characters' facial expressions and replicating nuanced performances; she called the result "an animated work of art encompassing the suspense of Ocean's Eleven, the spectacle of Marvel comics and the adventures of Indiana Jones, told through visuals of Chinese calligraphy-style brush strokes on screen."[1]

The review noted the film "grossed more than $225 million at the mainland Chinese box office alone since opening in mid-July," with its worldwide release now underway; it added that beyond the non-stop jokes and action, "benevolence prevails" as the protagonists find their "inner Robin Hood," and advised viewers to stay for the Easter egg in the rolling credits.[1]
