CN¥860M by day 11: top of the season

China Daily reported that since its July 18 release the film had earned more than 860 million yuan (US$127 million) by Tuesday, July 28 at the domestic box office, emerging as one of the biggest dark horses of the summer movie season and becoming the highest-grossing animated film of the period, bolstered by a strong word-of-mouth reputation with a rating of 8.3 out of 10 on the review platform Douban.[1]

The report confirmed the previously announced overseas schedule — Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea on August 13, followed by the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Netherlands on August 14 — and added that the film will then arrive in Belgium and Luxembourg on September 4.[1]

The China Daily feature explained that the idiom "The Eight Immortals cross the sea, each displaying their own special powers" originates from Journey to the East, a fantasy novel by Ming Dynasty writer Wu Yuantai, and that the gap in people's knowledge of the Eight Immortals inspired All Wishes Come True!, the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Mu Zhengyang.[1]
