The animation was singled out as "easily one of the film's greatest strengths," with action sequences that are "consistently impressive" and find creative ways to showcase each character's unique powers; the review praised the "tremendous visual invention" when fantastical elements collide with the film's futuristic aesthetic, and noted that humor in the biggest set pieces keeps the movie from getting too serious.[1]

The review's biggest criticism was the runtime: at approximately two and a half hours, "the movie is simply too long for the story it's trying to tell," losing momentum in the middle as added character development comes "at the expense of pacing."[1]
