Film opens in 110-plus Malaysian cinemas

Xie Junjiang, executive director of Mega Films Distribution, told Bastille Post that All Wishes Come True will screen in more than 110 cinemas across Malaysia, with over 600 daily showings; the nationwide release on Thursday, August 27, follows the Kuala Lumpur premiere covered by CGTN a day earlier.[1][2]

"For this premiere, besides printing specially designed tickets, we also custom-built a 'Heaven's Gate' arch and made life-size cutouts of the Eight Immortals characters for moviegoers to take photos with," Xie said of the distributor's premiere setup.[1]

At the Kuala Lumpur premiere, moviegoers lined up early to collect specially designed hard-cover ticket stubs that reveal a different Immortal depending on the viewing angle; rubber-duck merchandise inspired by the film's characters and a giant poster also drew photo-taking crowds.[1]

"It's surprisingly good. I think it was fantastic. Whether it's the animation, the screenplay, or the character design, I think everything was done exceptionally well. It takes myths that people have known for a long time and presents them through a blend of action and comedy. I think that's truly rare," said a Malaysian moviegoer of Chinese descent; another moviegoer said the film's message — "you just do what you think is right, and that's enough" — left them moved to tears and planning a second viewing with friends.[1]

Bastille Post noted the release adds to a growing list of Chinese films finding an audience in Malaysia in recent years, from the Ne Zha series to Kung Fu Soccer, with the Chaoshan (Teochew)-dialect film Dear You having recorded its highest overseas box office in the country.[1]
